Following the announcement of our arrival by the Pediatric Foundation, patients come from throughout Guatemala and surrounding areas to meet with our upper extremity specialists team of physicians, therapists and support staff.
Over the course of one day, 65 to 100 patients are screened and identified for either surgery or therapy. The surgery schedule for the week is established by day the end of the day. Patients are required to stay at the clinic for the surgery announcements to be made since the majority can not be contacted by phone.
Volunteers spend the day sharing a variety of crafts and activities with the children creating smiles over the long hours.
